HOW IS THE OPERATION PROCESS - FIVE DAYS

We welcome our patients at the airport on arrivals.

The hospital provides accommodation services during all procedures. In addition, there is no need for hotel accommodation.

Day 1: WELCOME and CHECK-UP

Our patients are hospitalized in single rooms, and can stay with 1 companion also. However, you are not obliged to come with an accompanying person. Social support is provided by our team to the patients who come alone.

First, Patient Information Form is filled in order to have detailed information of patient’s medical background. Then, the explanation of surgical procedure and postoperative period is given to patient by surgeon Dr. Güler.

IMPORTANT! Patient should start fasting 12 hours before check-up program.

The necessary appointments are provided, all analyses, investigations and consultations are previously planned by our clinical coordinator nurse and completed in the hospital with guidance of our obesity team within the same day.

Blood Count, Extensive Biochemistry, Vitamin and Hormone Levels, Ultrasonography, Electrocardiography, Echocardiography, Treadmill Test, Pulmonary Function Test, Chest X-ray and Endoscopy with sediation are performed with all patients.

All patients are evaluated by Endocrinology, Cardiology, Chest Diseases Specialist, Radiology, Gastroenterology and Anesthesia specialists.

Final assessment is performed by Dr. Güler before the surgery. Necessary precautions are taken to make the operation safely.

At the end, patient is informed once again, and verbal and written consents are received.

Day 2: OPERATION and the same day MOBILIZATION

Surgery process takes only 1 hour for sleeve gastrectomy, 2-3 hours for gastric bypass or revision surgery. Pre-op as 1 hour, post-op process as 1 hour should be added into total time period (from patient room to surgery room and back to patient’s room).

Patient can stand up and walk 4 hours after the operation, continue the day with respiratory exercise (every hour at least 10 times). Mobilization is very important, patients should walk frequently. Eating and drinking is not allowed till next morning.

Day 3: WATER, WALKING and BREATHING

Blood tests are taken by the nurse early in the morning. Patient starts drinking water by sips and respiratory exercise continues hourly during the day. Walking should get more frequently each day.

Day 4: LIQUIDS, EDUCATION and PRESCRIPTION

Blood tests are taken by the nurse early in the morning. If necessary, computer tomography scan with contrast dye is taken. Surgeon confirms patients to start liquid diet after evaluating the test and scan results.

Nutrition for Adaptation Period education is given by dietition. Control list for long term follow-up is given with specific dates and blood tests by clinical nurse. Patients can go outside (nearby hospital) for few hours if confirmed by surgeon.

Medical prescription is given and explained for usage by clinical nurse. Our team guides the patient for the supply of medication.

Day 5: DISCHARGE and GOODBYE

Discharge Instruction is given as written and explained verbally by patient representative for the following year as steps.

Documents (fit to fly report and every test patients went through on check-up day) for the flights are prepared and printed by nurses before discharge.

Patients who are interested can go out for shopping or sightseeing. Patients who will stay in Antalya are discharged.

After everything is ready, patients are accompanied by our obesity team for their return as they go to airport for their flights. In case of need as urgent things to do, our team is always beside you to help.
