COMPLICATIONS THAT MIGHT DEVELOP DURING THE OPERATION
-Switching from laparoscopic surgery to open surgery (1-2%).
-Injuries to the intestine or other abdominal organs (less than 1%).
-Bleedings (2-3%) which may develop from injured vessels or organs.
-Change of surgical method due to technical evolution process (less than 1%)
-Problems due to the intra vascular access of the serum (very rare).
-Temporary nerve and muscle damage due to the positioning during surgery (very rare).
-Allergic reaction to drugs, anesthetic agents or surgical methods (very rare).
POSTOPERATIVE POSSIBLE COMPLICATIONS
-Drip-leakage from the staple line (1-2%). It is manifested by unreasonable abdominal pain, palpitation and fever. It may require additional surgery.
-Risk to life (0.2-0.5%).
-Bleeding from the surgical site (1%). Blood transfusion or additional surgery may be required.
-Infection in incision sites
-Infection in the abdomen. It's rare. May prolong hospitalization. It can be fatal to life.
-Clot formation in leg veins (1%). Rarely, the clot can progress to the lung vessels and pose a risk to life.
-Lung infection and respiratory problems. Rarely, artificial respiratory support and intensive care follow-up may be required.
-Abnormal heart rhythm, heart attack (very rare).
-Stroke (very rare).
-Pancreatitis (very rare).
-Urinary tract infection
-Intestinal inflammation
-Constipation
LONG-TERM POSSIBLE COMPLICATIONS
-Indigestion, mild abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, habitory changes in the intestinal tract.
-Stenosis in the middle part of the stomach, difficulty in food passing through. Rarely, endoscopic balloon dilation may be required.
-Insufficient weight loss. Rarely surgery on repeat may be necessary.
-Problems due to insufficient fluid or salt intake.
-Stone-mud formation in gallbladder as a result of slimming. Gallbladder surgery may be required.
-Hernia development in surgical sites.
-Psychological problems, depression.
-Liver disease or liver disfunction. Pre-existing liver disease revelation due to weight loss.
-Mild hair loss if protein intake is insufficient. It will grow back in time.
